HOW IT'S MADE

From the unique charm of Amsterdam to the enchanting landscapes of Bali and the vibrant energy of Thailand, our jewellery travels around the globe. We nurture each piece from the birth of an idea to the delivery of a product that marks a milestone in someone’s life. At every stage, our jewellery inches closer to perfection, passing through the hands of exceptionally skilled craftsmen and craftswomen. Let’s explore the time and dedication invested in crafting a unique piece of Buddha to Buddha jewellery.

DESIGNED IN AMSTERDAM

The process begins with our talented designers at the Buddha to Buddha headquarters in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Inspired by different milestones in people’s live, they start with the visualization of an idea. A sketch of a new piece of jewellery is drawn with passion, then discussed and refined until it reaches perfection. Once finalized, it’s then transformed into a technical drawing.

BRINGING A PIECE TO LIFE

Our jewellery is made from recycled 925 sterling silver and 14-carat gold, which are heated and mixed to form solid bars and then processed into wires and links. Each link is hand-woven into a unique design, with techniques such as hammering, stretching and twisting adding character and depth. Oxidation creates the distinctive look; Black Rhodium jewellery is also coated with a layer of rhodium for a dark, powerful finish. Finally, each piece of jewellery is carefully polished for a perfect finish, a traditional process that combines tradition and precision.

A TRIBUTE TO HAND-WOVEN TRADITION

Each piece of our jewellery is a tribute to the time-honored tradition of metal weaving. This tradition is deeply rooted in the cultural heart of Bali, Indonesia. It’s only practiced by a handful of local artisans. Each piece of jewellery requires a minimum of 72 (!) hours to create, depending on the size and complexity of the design. Explore The Batul, our special piece of jewellery named after our founder.

THE PRECISION OF CREATING A LEATHER JEWELRY PIECE

Our leather jewellery starts with the careful selection of high-quality leather hides. The selected hides are then scraped, to give the rough hide a smooth texture. Next, thin strips of leather are cut with precision and expertly woven into the desired pattern and design. If necessary, the leather also undergoes a dyeing process to apply colors and shades. Finally, the leather is carefully waxed before the leather chain is attached to the lock.

CRAFTING A ONE-OF-A-KIND LOCK

Creating sustainable jewellery means paying special attention to the clasp, which will be opened and closed thousands of times. We have our famous clasps cast by specialized artisans in Bangkok, Thailand. The process begins with granulating silver or gold and making a rubber mold. Next, we pour molten silver or gold into this mold to form a basic shape. From this, we obtain a wax model, which is then manually attached to a so-called wax tree.

The final step involves polishing and sanding the silver jewellery to ensure that it opens and closes smoothly. By combining the clasp with the jewellery, the soul of the piece is immortalized.

CHECK, CHECK, DUBBLE-CHECK!

Our commitment to excellence knows no bounds. To ensure that our high-quality jewellery lives up to its promise of lasting forever, no piece of jewellery leaves our workshop without undergoing an extensive quality control process. Every step of the process is carefully checked and only when our experts are convinced that each piece of jewellery is perfect, it is prepared to mesmerize the world with its unique beauty and craftsmanship.
